Tengu, Finished?

I think I like it but I'm not sure. I really love the blue Tengus, I wish I painted a larger one blue... though maybe its better as a detail. I think its really dark and looking a bit flat. I'll see what teacher says. I'm not yet comfortable working with this darker pallet. At least its spooky. :) View it large! There is a lot to look at...

Some WIPS

Here is a drawing of an illustrative self portrait. "I'm like an ocean, full or beautiful and scary things, and right now im full of sharks".

Half-way through the Tengu piece, as you can notice, there are more tengus and I fixed some things. I went all painty with this, not sure if I like it or not. We'll see.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Well the drawings from the last post plus another huge one I never got a chance to scan got scrapped. My teacher wants me to re draw them. He doesn't want good, he wants my best. I liked them a lot but perhaps I did rush them a little bit and it showed. The composition was also not completely worked out. They were in the thumbnails, but something must have gotten lost along the way when I transferred them to large paper. I think I may scan in my thumbnails and blow them up and transfer them on a light box. A lot of the big shots do that, and now I know why. Meanwhile, I'm still working on that Garden Children's Book. It is coming along. Here is a spread I really liked.

Litho Project

I'm going to have so much work to do this semester, but I'm really excited. I was so out of it the last two semesters and I'm back on track I feel. This semester I'm taking my two senior projects, with Chang (Park) and Tim (O'brien). I'm taking Life Study with David Gothard, I always take some class like that so I don't get lazy with figure drawing. I'm also taking a Litho class and a few fun libral arts classes.

So this is my sketch for Litho, and I just scribbled some color on it, my "color map" as I call it. The content is eh, about female circumsison, but really I just wanted to draw something with patterns and textures to see how it works out in litho. I've never done that print making yet, and everyone tells me it will be perfect for my work. We'll see. I have a feeling the prints I do will suck for a while until I get use to that way of working.
